SEASON 2018-2019 - THE MONDAY KNIGHTS
Players | Ed Adamson, Anantha PP Anilkumar, Nivjesh Aravinthan, Koushikk Ayyappan, Alejandro Ito-Aramendia, Shubhransh Khare, Luke Moore (Capt), George Ogden, Varun Sahdev, Suriya Velayudham, William Weir. |
Position | A Team: Championship - 2 of 6, B Team: League 1 - 3 of 6: |
Comments | Under new captain Luke Moore, the 1st team progressed from one who had been promoted and just survived - to a team that challenged for the title. In the end the 2 head to head matches against Chessters (first and 2nd last games of the season) were crucial in that, had The Monday Knights managed to win just one of them instead of drawing both, they would have won the title. Despite this, with Chessters losing their final match of the season, the Monday Knights would have pipped them had they achieved a better score that the defeat they scored. The 2nd team were not quite as much in the running for their division, but spent the season trundling behind the top top 2 without being likely to catch them. |
SEASON 2017-2018 - THE MONDAY KNIGHTS
Players | Ed Adamson, Daniel Barnes (Capt), Nicolas Casero, Alejandro Ito-Aramendia, Shubhransh Khare, Richard Ledingham, Matthew Retter, Varun Sahdev, Suriya Velayudham, William Weir, Lida Zhu. |
Position | A Team: Championship - 5 of 8, B Team: League 1 - 6 of 6: |
Comments | Having won promotion last season, the 1st team did just enough to stay up, despite only picking up a draw from their first 3 matches. The squad was plagued by defaults throughout the season, which naturally affected the 2nd team far more than the 1st team. But both eventually ended up being docked at least a point as a result. Captain Daniel Barnes heads to university this Autumn so a new captain will be sort to try and keep the team alive. |
SEASON 2016-2017 - THE MONDAY KNIGHTS
Players | A: Padmesh Ayyappan,
Daniel Barnes (Cap), Alejandro Ito-Aramendia, Richard Ledingham, Matthew
Retter, Varun Sahdev. B: Nicolas Casero, Shubhransh Khare, Alfie Metcalfe, Kanmani Vedachalam, William Weir. |
Position | A Team: League 1 - 1 of 6, B Team: League 1 - 6 of 6: |
Comments | New captain Daniel Barnes decided to split the players so that the stronger players were in Team A - and if winning the title was the aim, it worked. They achieved this with 5 wins and 2 draws (both against Castles Knights). So next season the 2 teams will be in different divisions after 2 seasons together. However the counter-effect was that the B team finished bottom having had a season where they were outgraded on most, if not every board. |
SEASON 2015-2016 - THE MONDAY KNIGHTS
Players | A: Annalise Hansen,
Fabian Heeler, Artur Imykshenov, Rocco Martinez-Paoli, Sahil Nagawa,
Matthew Retter, William Weir. B: Daniel Barnes, Nilomi Desai, Matthew Hoy, Alejandro Ito-Aramendia, Dominic Smith, Nandinee Thatte. |
Position | A Team: League 1 - 3rd of 8, B Team: League 1: 6th of 8 |
Comments | Both teams were in the same division this season and overseen by Daniel Gliddon, as we couldn't find an appropriate captain. The A team finished 3rd but it might have been more had they not defaulted in January; they might have gone into the final game against Pawn Curry 2 with a chance of winning the title. The B team only managed 1 win and finished 1 point clear of bottom spot. |
SEASON 2014-2015 - THE MONDAY KNIGHTS
Players | Simon Court, Mark Houghton (Cap), Alejandro Ito-Aramendia, Caspian Fowler, Fabian Heeler, Annalise Hansen, Noah Phillips, Matthew Retter, Artur Imykshenov, Benjamin Van As, Amy Wallis. |
Position | 1st Team: League 1: 6th out of 6 Cup: Lost in Plate Intermediate Round 2nd Team: League 2: 6th out of 6 Cup: Lost in Plate Intermediate Round |
Comments | A new (double) team formed ready for the start of the new season, they suffered a lot by the unavoidable unavailability of their stronger players, but the team had been formed more for training purposes. In the end, neither team managed to win a match as they both finished bottom of their respective divisions and went out early in the cup. |
