SEASON CHECKER
SEASON 2018-2019 - 5 SEETED MAGGUTS
Players | Brian Allan, Paul Braithwaite, Roxolana Chaban, Barry Miles, Dominic Warner |
Position | 3 out of 8 |
Comments | The champions were top after a maximum win in their first match, but drew the next 2 - which included a draw against the eventual champions. A loss in round 4 against the eventual runners-up finished their chances of retaining their title. |
SEASON 2017-2018 - 5 SEETED MAGGUTS
Players | Brian Allan, Paul Braithwaite, Judah Elliott, Barry Miles, Dominic Warner |
Position | 1 out of 8 |
Comments | Having finished near the bottom last season, taking the title this season was probably not on their list of expectations. But despite defeat in the opening round, that is what they did, helped partially by the loss of points by The Gladiators for overshooting the rating limit. As a result of all the mathematics, they never actually played The Gladiators. An unusual season! |
SEASON 2016-2017 - 5 SEETED MAGGUTS
Players | Brian Allan, Judah Elliott, Alfie Metcalfe, Barry Miles, Dominic Warner |
Position | 6 out of 8 |
Comments | A bad start (against the eventual winners) and the lack of a captain put pay to any likelihood of a challenge for the title. They also weren't helped by a player dropping out mid-season. |
SEASON 2015-2016 - 5 SEETED MAGGUTS
Players | Brian Allan, Paul Braithwaite (Capt), Ian Carden, Barry Miles, Dominic Warner. |
Position | 5th 0f 10 |
Comments | A win over one of the new teams gave them the perfect start, but 2 consecutive defeats pushed them back down again. A draw and a win at the end ensured that they finished in 5th again, although this time in the top half of the table, as there were more teams than last season involved. |
SEASON 2014-2015 - 5 SEETED MAGGUTS
Players | Brian Allan, Dominic Warner, Barry Miles, Ian Carden, Paul Braithwaite (Capt). |
Position | 5th out of 8 |
Comments | After 2 rounds, they were sitting just half a point of maximum score, but 1 win in the last 2 rounds saw them slip away from the top and finish in mid-table. |
SEASON 2013-2014 - 5 SEETED MAGGUTS
Players | Brian Allan, Dominic Warner, Barry Miles, Ian Carden, Paul Braithwaite (Capt). |
Position | 7th out of 8 |
Comments | The loss of last season's captain, Caspian Heeler, was too much for their chances; 2 early defeats ended any hopes they had of a title and although victory in the middle round revived hopes, defeat in the final 2 games left them 1 place off the bottom. |
SEASON 2012-2013 - 5 SEETED MAGGUTS
Players | Brian Allan, Caspian Heeler (Capt), Dominic Warner, Barry Miles, Ian Carden, Paul Braithwaite. |
Position | 2 out of 6 |
Comments | 2 draws in the first 2 rounds left them running behind Barcelona but victory in the final round would have won them the title. However Barcelona held their nerve and managed to claim a 2-2 draw to prevent the Magguts from winning the title that they won 2 seasons ago. |
SEASON 2011-2012 - 5 SEETED MAGGUTS
Players | Brian Allan, Paul Braithwaite, Caspian Heeler (Capt), Barry Miles, Dominic Warner |
Position | 4 out of 6 |
Comments | What a difference a year makes! 2 consecutive titles gave way to just 1 match win and 4th place with the same squad. Defeat in the ppening round to the eventual winners followed by defeat to the eventual runners-up in round 2 left them completely out of the running and working on damage limitation for the rest of the season. |
SEASON 2010-2011 - 5 SEETED MAGGUTS
Players | Brian Allan, Paul Braithwaite, Caspian Heeler (Capt), Barry Miles, Dominic Warner |
Position | 1 out of 6 |
Comments | Out of 20 board points, they won 16, drew 2 and only lost 2; a stunning record on the way to retaining their title with a maximum score. Dominic Warner won all 5 rounds on the way. |
SEASON 2009-2010 - 5 SEETED MAGGUTS
Players | Brian Allan, Caspian Heeler (Capt), Richard Ledingham, Barry Miles, Dominic Warner |
Position | 1 out of 6 |
Comments | They wouldn't have started the season as one of the favourites but delivered wins all the way except for a draw against Real Betis, winning the league in the process after a big win over the defending champions in the final round. |
SEASON 2008-2009 - 5 SEETED MAGGUTS
Players | Brian Allan, Caspian Heeler, Matthew Cook, Richard Ledingham, Dominic Warner |
Position | 3 out of 6 |
Comments | A decent season in the circumstances saw them get into the medal positions, despite having a point deducted as a result of one of the squad not playing the required 3 matches. |
SEASON 2007-2008 - 5 SEETED MAGGUTS
Players | David Barron, Ian Pratley (Capt), Brian Allan, Vince Brady, Rahul Lall |
Position | 4 out of 6 |
Comments | The name for this new teams was taken as an anagram of the original name given as a reference "Suggested Team 5). It was defeats all the way until the final round and this took them off the bottom. However, they were unlucky in that 2 of their squad members had unavoidable periods away from the club. |
