FIDE RATED OPEN - The Open will be a qualification events for the British Championships (subject to the ECF's stated minimum numbers being achieved).

TOURNAMENT TYPE:
All sections will be 5 Round competitions.  Players may request a ½ point bye in any round, however byes in the last round can only be requested before the start of the first round so that no advantage can be gained from it - and the request cannot be withdrawn after the start of Round 1.  All games will be FIDE rated - and ECF graded, with results included in the English Chess Federation Grand Prix.  Ratings and Grades will be taken from the latest available list at the time of the event.

DAY 1:    Round 1:  10-00           Round 2:  14-30           Round 3:  19-00          DAY 2:    Round 4:  10-00           Round 5:  14-30

PAIRINGS / DEFAULT TIMES
Pairings will be done from 9-00am on the day of the 1st round and late entrants (if accepted) added into the draw.  Default time will be 30 minutes after the advertised start of each round (although we allow later arrivals if the player has confirmed they are on their way) - and we will seek to re-pair anyone who is left without a game (we do not give default wins unless essential). All players play in all rounds (except where there is a bye - no player can get more than 1 bye in the competitions). It is NOT a knockout!

TIME CONTROL:
1 hour and 30 minutes for all moves plus 30 seconds added Fischer increments from move 1.

LAWS OF CHESS:
FIDE Laws of Chess Apply.  The decision of the Coulsdon Chess controller is final in all matters.  Players are encourages to read the laws of chess.

MOBILE PHONES:
Coulsdon Chess allows mobile phones onto the premises.  Players must switch their phones off during play (we will not allow them on silent mode), but players are invited to put their phones on divert to the Coulsdon Chess telephone number (020 8645 9586) whilst the congress is in progress, should they be expecting urgent calls.  Players may be defaulted if at any time during one of their games, they are seen using a mobile phone. 

OTHER ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT:
To uphold the FIDE laws, players may not interact with anyone using computers whilst their game is still in progress.

RESULTS ON THE WEB SITE:
It is a condition of entry into any Coulsdon Chess tournament that Coulsdon Chess may list results (including all names and clubs) on our web site for permanent display.
