CCF Super League History of
LATE KNIGHT SACRIFICE
(Captain: Mark Houghton)

SEASON 2012-2013     -     LATE KNIGHT SACRIFICE
Players David Openshaw, Simon Court (Capt), Mark Houghton, Keith Selby, Hugo Fowler.
Position Championship - 5th out of 6      Cup - lost in quarter-finals of the cup
Comments The future of the team may be uncertain after a second successive relegation, although relegation is not a certainty at this stage as the league reforms and we do not yet know which teams will fold as others expand to run 2 teams out of 1 squad.  However they should never have finished in the bottom 2, but had a result turned against them after an unfortunate error in board order in the opening game of the season.  This was appealed but not upheld by other captains voting, but many felt it should have been.  Sadly with relegation, the team broke up and ceased to exist.
SEASON 2011-2012     -     LATE KNIGHT SACRIFICE
Players Simon Court (Capt), Alan Evans, Barry Hampton, Mark Houghton, Paul Jackson.
Position Premiership - 6th out of 8
Comments Having been in the title frame until the very end of last season, they will have been devastated to finish in what was an enlarged relegation zone (increased by 1 to accommodate the restructuring of the competition).  Defeat in the opening 2 rounds put them on the back foot and although they achieved 3 wins in the next 4 rounds, defeat in the final round proved to be not enough to remain in the new smaller Premiership.
SEASON 2010-2011     -     LATE KNIGHT SACRIFICE
Players Simon Court (Capt), Alan Evans, Barry Hampton, Mark Houghton, Paul Jackson.
Position Premiership - 2nd out of 8
Comments Leading after 5 rounds having only conceded one draw, they must have felt that they had a great chance of achieving their first ever title, but it all went wrong in the last 2 rounds when they first lost to The Gladiators and then lost to Pawn Crackers in what became a head to head match for the title.
SEASON 2009-2010     -     LATE KNIGHT SACRIFICE
Players Simon Court (Capt), Alan Evans, Barry Hampton, Mark Houghton, Paul Jackson.
Position Premiership - 6th out of 8
Comments A very poor start saw them lose 3 of their first 4 games (drawing the other) and sit at the bottom of the table as one of the favourites to go down.  However, a recovery win over Pawn Crackers in round 5 was followed by a shock draw against eventual champions The Gladiators.  Despite a 4-0 defeat to Pawn Crackers in the final round, they stayed up by the narrowest possible of margins.  They finished absolutely dead level with Real Betis and had drawn 2-2 with them in the 2nd round.  However board count went in their favour and they stayed up.
SEASON 2008-2009     -     FOUR KING FORKERS
Players Simon Court (Capt), Alan Evans, Barry Hampton, Mark Houghton, Paul Jackson.
Position Premiership - 3rd out of 8
Comments They were in the running most of the way, but a crucial defeat in round 5 just left them that bit too far away from Good Knights to try and pounce in the last 2 rounds.  A win in the final round with a Good Knights defeat could have given them the title but neither happened.
SEASON 2007-2008     -     FOUR KING FORKERS
Players Mark Cluett, Simon Court (Capt), Alan Evans, Mark Houghton, Paul Jackson.
Position Premiership - 3rd out of 8
Comments A well structured squad, they always had the potential to win it, so a 3rd place finish wasn't too bad.  Their only defeats came against the 2 teams that finished ahead of them..
SEASON 2006-2007     -     FOUR BOARD FORKERS
Players Kevin Bailey, Mark Cluett, Simon Court (Capt), Alan Evans, Mark Houghton, John Kelly.
Position 2 out of 12
Comments This was by far the best season so far for this team.  They managed to win all 4 of their final 4 games to take 2nd place and their first prize zone finish.
SEASON 2005-2006     -     MEET THE FORKERS
Players Lana Boztas, Mark Cluett, Simon Court (Capt), Mark Houghton, Christopher Rowe.
Position 9 out of 14
Comments Not such a strong finish this season where results were inconsistent from start to finish.
SEASON 2004-2005     -     GRAVESENDIANS
Players Lana Boztas, Mark Cluett, Simon Court (Capt), Mark Houghton.
Position 6 out of 20
Comments The experience gained in the 1st season really benefitted the team as they dramatically improved their position, helped by new signing Lana Boztas who replaced Paul Sayers.  Three wins in the last three rounds took them just outside the prize zone in only their 2nd season.
SEASON 2003-2004     -     GRAVESENDIANS
Players Mark Cluett, Nicole Cooper, Simon Court, Mark Houghton, Paul Sayers.
Position 15 out of 20
Comments Simon Court had a team of inexperienced chess players (he was the only one graded) at his office in Gravesend.  So he brought them into our league and they managed to finish a respectable 15th.
