MONDAY NIGHT HOME PAGE CHESS HOME PAGE MEMBERSHIP FORM 2007-8
Dear CCF Members (Past, Present & Maybe Future!)
CCF WINTER CHESS INFORMATION: SEASON 2007-8
I am pleased to include information and entry form for the forthcoming winter chess season. The majority of these activities are set for Monday nights. Players are reminded that you can regulate the amount of chess you play; you are not automatically expected to play every week as was the case a few years back.
The activities we have are detailed more completely on the CCF web site. In brief, we have:
| EVENT | TYPE | ENTER | BRIEF EXPLANATION OF THE EVENT |
| Long Play Club Championship Divisions |
Individual event |
by 1 Aug 07 | Based (in principle) on the previous season's finishing position, players are placed in divisions of 10, although players can apply for higher positions (or lower) subject to space being available. New players are inserted based on grade. Players play in Divisions of up to 10 players (we aim for a maximum from the start of the season subject to logistics of grades and numbers). There are scheduled dates for matches although players must all be prepared to be a little flexible to ensure matches get played by the deadline. Please note that players may not make entries conditional on which division they play in. The top 2 divisions (at least) will be FIDE rated and players must be members of the ECF. |
| Individual Rapid Play Club Championship |
Individual event |
by 1 Sep 07 | Part of SPEED CHESS EVENINGS: there are no set fixtures but entrants are expected to turn up on scheduled Speed Chess evenings and to play a reasonable proportion of the games they are due to play. We will aim to leave Week 5 as a "catch up" week, so hope that players will work with us to get as many games out of the way by the end of match night 4. Matches will be mixed in with Blitz Club Championship matches as directed by the "Air Traffic Controller" on the evening. |

| Super League (The Original) |
Team competition | by 25 Sep 07 | Captains have an aggregate grade they can use up during the course of the season. This season's total will be 3,000 in the top division and 2,000 in the lower division. There are 4 players in an evening and 7 rounds during the season. Annual promotion and relegation (2 teams). |
| Super League (Rapid Play) |
Team competition | by 18 Sep 07 | Part of SPEED CHESS EVENINGS: Captains have an aggregate grade they can use up during the course of the season. This season's total will be 2,500 (this is the same as last season). There are 4 players in an evening and 5 rounds during the season. Each fully registered player must register for a minimum of over 50% of the matches available to them. |
| Surrey
CCA League Teams |
SCCA Teams Home & Away | by 1 Aug 07 | This is the inter-club scene where we play home and away matches in the Surrey County Chess Association competitions. All members will be eligible and will be encouraged to take part. This will not cost anything extra to full CCF members from this season. |
| Dicky
White Club Tournament |
Individual event including ALL internal matches | any time | This was previously the only Coulsdon & Purley Club Championship event before CCF introduced divisions. This event is now obviously under CCF and will be expanded to automatically include any long play match (apart from Surrey League games) that is played within all of the internal team and individual events listed above. The idea is that winner will be the most improved player over everything played within CCF Winter long play events. |
* The "Air Traffic Controller" referred to for the Speed Chess evenings is the CCF organiser on the evening who will direct players to play matches as he/she sees as appropriate to get as many games played as possible.
You may miss out on a number of the activities if you fail to meet entry deadlines.
We have a lot of preparation work to do; it would be appreciated if anyone who receives an invite but is not interested in playing this season lets us know as soon as possible so that we can take this into account. We know that a number of people will have been surprised to have received this package, but it was deliberate. It has been sent to all members past and present plus a number of former CCF school trainees who we felt might benefit from the activities we provide at the Coulsdon club, which is probably the biggest in the country and one of very few that caters for all standards of player.
Please do not hesitate to call our activities coordinator, Scott Freeman, should you have any questions or wish to discuss the different competitions.
Yours sincerely
Rev Howard Curtis

COULSDON WINTER
CHESS - SEASON 2007-2008
GENERAL BULLET POINTS
1
There is no withdrawal allowed from any event unless there are exceptional
circumstances. By entering, you are agreeing to complete the required
number of games.
2 Except on extremely rare occasions, events do not clash, so
you can, if you want a high intense season of chess, put your name down for
every event you are eligible for.
3 The Dicky White tournament now includes results from all
Individual Long Play club championships the long play Super Leagues plus
any extra graded matches we agree to facilitate. The only long play games that will
not be included are those you play in the Surrey League.
4 In principle and assuming you are available, you are obliged
to give priority to the event that is predominant on any given Monday evening.
5 Players are reminded that they must record moves clearly AT ALL
TIMES in matches where you have Fischer timings with increments of 30 seconds or
more.
6 Please check the rules very carefully on when and how you
can cancel individual matches. The onus is on you to do all the chasing to
ensure that your opponent knows and has responded and that everything is
reported to CCF - at the VERY latest by 5pm on the day of the game.
