Dear CCF Members (Past, Present & Maybe Future!)

CCF WINTER CHESS INFORMATION: SEASON 2010-11

I am pleased to include information and entry form for the forthcoming winter chess season. The majority of these activities are set for Monday nights. Players are reminded that you can regulate the amount of chess you play; you are not automatically expected to play every week as was the case a few years back.

The activities we have are detailed more completely on the CCF web site. In brief, we have:

EVENT TYPE ENTER BRIEF EXPLANATION OF THE EVENT

This is the inter-club scene where we play home and away matches in the Surrey County Chess Association competitions.  All members will be eligible and will be encouraged to take part.  This will not cost anything extra to full CCF members from this season.
World Cup Individual:
Group then K-O
by
31 July
2010
If you are NOT playing in the inter-club chess scene, this tournament is open to you.  Players will be randomly drawn into groups of 5 (ideally) for a group phase to be completed by Christmas.  EVERYONE will go into one of the knock-out events after Christmas to try and pick up one of the replica World Cup Trophies..........
Dicky White
Club Tournament
Individual: including ALL internal matches any
time
This was previously the only Coulsdon & Purley Club Championship event before CCF introduced divisions.  This event is now obviously under CCF and will be expanded to automatically include any long play match (apart from inter-club games) that is played within the club.  It includes all of the internal team and individual events listed above plus extra games played on any night.  The winner will be the most improved player that year based on internal results.

*    The "Air Traffic Controller" referred to for the Speed Chess evenings is the CCF organiser on the evening who will direct players to play matches as he/she sees as appropriate to get as many games played as possible.

You may miss out on a number of the activities if you fail to meet entry deadlines.

We have a lot of preparation work to do; it would be appreciated if anyone who receives an invite but is not interested in playing this season lets us know as soon as possible so that we can take this into account. We know that a number of people will have been surprised to have received this package, but it was deliberate. It has been sent to all members past and present plus a number of former CCF school trainees who we felt might benefit from the activities we provide at the Coulsdon club, which is probably the biggest in the country and one of very few that caters for all standards of player.

Please do not hesitate to call our activities coordinator, Scott Freeman, should you have any questions or wish to discuss the different competitions.

Yours sincerely

Rev Howard Curtis

COULSDON WINTER CHESS - SEASON 2010-2011
GENERAL BULLET POINTS

1    There is no withdrawal allowed from any event unless there are exceptional circumstances.  By entering, you are agreeing to complete the required number of games without default (especially in the FIDE Rated divisions).
2    Except on extremely rare occasions, events do not clash, so you can, if you want a high intense season of chess, put your name down for every event you are eligible for (except for the choice between Inter-Club chess and the CCF World Cup).
3    The Dicky White tournament includes ALL results from ALL internal long play matches you play here, whether individually or in Super Leagues.  The only long play games that will not be included are inter-club games.
4    In principle and assuming you are available, you are obliged to give priority to the event that is predominant on any given Monday evening.
5    Players are reminded that they must record moves clearly AT ALL TIMES in long play matches where you have Fischer timings with increments of 30 seconds or more.
6    Please check the rules very carefully on when and how you can cancel individual matches.  The onus is on you to do all the chasing to ensure that your opponent knows and has responded and that everything is reported to CCF - at the VERY latest by 5pm on the day of the game.
