REVOKE
These are brief details, the Director must be called as in
all cases of irregularity.
A revoke is established when the offending side leads or
plays to the next trick. Otherwise the
card played in error is a penalty card.
When a revoke is established, play continues to the end of
the hand.
1. If the
offender won the revoke trick
that trick, plus one more if another trick was won after
the revoke, is transferred to the non-offending side.
2. If the
offender did not win the revoke trick
If the offender's partner won the revoke trick, or the
offending side won a subsequent trick, one trick is transferred to the
non-offending side.
A second trick is also transferred if an additional trick
was later won by the offender with a card that should have been played to the
revoke trick. For example, if a Club
should have been played to the revoke trick, and a Club later won a trick, this
trick is also transferred.
The Director may award an adjusted score if the
non-offending side is insufficiently compensated for the damage caused, e.g. a
suit run off by the offenders in No-trumps.
There is no penalty if the offending side did not win the
revoke trick or any later tricks.
REVOKE ON THE 12TH
TRICK
There may not be a penalty for a revoke to the twelfth
trick.
HOWEVER, if a defender
revokes before his partner has played to the twelfth trick, and if the
offender's partner has two cards of different suits, declarer may require the
offender's partner to play either of the two cards he could legally have
played. The reason is that the revoke
card may influence the play of the offender's partner.
No Spades, Partner?
Declarer may ask anyone
if they have none of the suit they failed to follow on, and anyone may ask
Declarer, including Dummy.
If a defender asks his partner, and his partner has failed
to follow suit, he must correct his card but the penalty is as for an
established revoke as there is unauthorised information passed between the
defenders and one must assume that the revoke was going to become established.
