INSUFFICIENT BID
These are brief details, the Director must be called as in
all cases of irregularity.
The first option is that the next player in rotation may
accept the bid. Bidding continues as
normal, there is no lead penalty.
1. A
natural bid
If the bid was not conventional, it may be corrected by
raising to a sufficient level and there is no penalty. If, however, the raising of the bid makes it
a conventional bid, the offender's partner must pass for the whole auction and
the offender will therefore change his bid.
2. A
conventional bid OR
3. Corrected
by another bid or pass
The offender's partner must pass for the rest of the
auction.
Possible lead penalty
If the insufficient bid specified any particular suit, and
it was not repeated later in the auction, offender's partner has unauthorised
information. Declarer may require the
offender's partner to lead, or prohibit from leading, one of the offender's
suits at his/her first turn to lead.
If no suit was specified e.g. 1 no-trump, declarer may
prohibit offender's partner from leading any one suit at his/her's first turn
to lead.
4. Corrected
by a double or redouble
This is not allowed.
The call is cancelled and the rules under 2. and 3. above apply
concerning penalties.
